SEOUL, June 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's working single-person households hit a record high last year, affected by a rapid increase in the working elderly, statistical office data showed Tuesdaybaccaratclub.

The number of working one-person households totaled 4,675,000 in 2023, up 120,000 compared with the previous year, according to Statistics Korea.

It accounted for 63.3 percent of the total single households last year, marking the highest since relevant data began to be compiled in 2015. The proportion was up 0.2 percentage points from a year earlier.

The proportion of working single households to the total single households among those aged 60 or older gained 1.7 percentage points over the year to 39.5 percent in 2023.

The figure for those in their 50s advanced 1.4 percentage points to 74.7 percent, but the reading for those in their 30s retreated 0.6 percentage points to 87.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the proportion of dual-income households to the total married couples increased 2.1 percentage points from a year earlier to reach a fresh high of 48.2 percent in 2023.

The total number of married couples fell by 4,000 to 12,687,000 last year, but the number of working couples expanded 268,000 to 6,115,000.
